New technologies are producing ever more molecular data, much of which is deposited in data resources managed by EMBL-EBI. The UK government\u2019s Large Facilities Capital Fund (LFCF) has committed substantial support for EMBL-EBI\u2019s technical infrastructure over the period 2010 to 2019: specifically, \u00a361 million towards data-centre and hardware capacity. This support ensures that the institute can provide safe, secure, robust and resilient infrastructure for its many growing, public-facing biological databases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EMBL-EBI undertook a major procurement exercise to appoint the data centre supplier for the next five years (2015-2019), and the winning tender was submitted by Gyron. On 25 July 2014, the contract was signed by Mark Green, Head of EMBL-EBI Administration and Robin Balen, Gyron Managing Director, witnessed by LFCF Project Manager Mary Barlow and Gyron Client Manager Dan Clark. Services are being migrated to the new data centre in Hemel Hempstead, UK; this work is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
