About this position

We are looking for a technical officer to run the advanced Flow Cytometry facility at the Epigenetics and Neurobiology Unit near Rome, Italy.

Your role

You will report to the Head of EMBL Rome and manage a high-standard service facility offering in-house personalized flow cytometric service to EMBL scientists. You will be responsible for running, maintaining and trouble-shooting the facility instruments and for training users on the equipment (FACSAria cell sorter, Attune NxT and FACScanto analyser, iCELL8 single-cell system). You will be encouraged to both attend conferences and to assist in instruction of FACS courses organized at the EMBL Heidelberg unit.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the purchase of supplies for the flow cytometry stock center
  • Assist with experimental design, sample preparation, optimisation of flow cytometry protocols, data generation and analysis, and cell sorting
  • Liaise where necessary with Flow Cytometry resources elsewhere within EMBL.
  • Provide Facility users and others with training on basic and advanced flow cytometry concepts and applications

You have

  • Master degree or PhD in Biology or related subjects
  • Specialised training and/or extensive experience in the application and conduct of flow cytometry practices
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent command of English language (written and spoken)
This position is suitable for individuals with experience as a user or a technician of a flow cytometry facility.

You might also have

  • Previous experience with a FACSAria cell sorter is desirable
  • Experience with FACSDiva software and data analysis using FlowJo and FCS Express software would be an advantage
