About this position

We are looking for a scientist in electron microscopy and cell biology to join the Electron Microscopy Core Facility. The position will entail providing high-level input in projects or requests coming from the users of the facility and to master high-end experimentation in electron microscopy for Cell Biology, particularly for the specialized fields of correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM) and of volume electron microscopy imaging. Specialized tasks involve performing the diverse set of CLEM methods and supervising the operations of the volume SEM activities of the EMCF (FIB-SEM, SBEM, array tomography).

Your role

  • Perform EM for a large range of biological projects, deploying the portfolio of existing techniques.
  • Interactions with users:
    • participate to meetings with the user, before the projects start in order to advise on and offer the most adapted techniques;
    • guide the users throughout the progression of their experimentation (which may include training them);
    • provide clear analysis and reports on their results.
  • Organize and conduct courses and workshops.
  • Contribute to and drive the development and implementation of new methods in CLEM and volume SEM.

You have

The appointee must be an expert in electron microscopy for cell biology, mastering the conventional methods for sample preparation (chemical fixation, cryo-methods), and the use of TEMs and volume SEMs. Moreover, a significant expertise in light microscopy, in CLEM and 3D CLEM is required.

The position requires a PhD (or equivalent) in the fields of cell biology. The candidate should have a solid work experience in a laboratory conducting fundamental research in cell biology. Strong inter-personal and communication skills and fluent knowledge of the English language are required.
