The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organizations in the world. The newest EMBL site in Barcelona, with its focus on tissue biology and disease modelling, is established in the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB), one of the largest infrastructures in Southern Europe dedicated to translational research.
One of the missions of EMBL Barcelona is to create synthetic tissues in vitro from pluripotent stem cells. In addition to widely used mouse/human stem cells, we also utilize stem cells of unconventional model organisms to study the diversity of developmental processes and tissue functions among species. We have recently started a new collaboration project with Barcelona Zoo, Institute of Evolutionary Biology (IBE) and Center for Genomic Regulation (CRG) to establish new induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines from diverse animal species.
Thus, we are looking for a specialist researcher who can establish iPSC lines from diverse animal species. In addition, the person may work on the establishment of new patient-specific iPSC lines as well, since another mission of EMBL Barcelona is disease modelling.
You will create new iPSC lines from samples obtained from zoos/hospitals/biobanks. The samples are typically fibroblasts or blood of diverse animal species, potentially including human patients. As a unit specialist, you will work independently but interact closely with groups in EMBL Barcelona and collaborating institutes.
EMBL is an inclusive, equal opportunity employer offering attractive conditions and benefits appropriate to an international research organisation with a very collegial and family friendly working environment. The remuneration package comprises a competitive salary, a comprehensive pension scheme, medical, educational and other social benefits, as well as financial support for relocation and installation, including your family. EMBL Barcelona is established in the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB), one of the largest infrastructures in Southern Europe dedicated to translational research, where researchers will benefit from a collaboration with other pioneering research institutes.
We are Europe’s flagship research laboratory for the life sciences – an intergovernmental organisation performing scientific research in disciplines including molecular biology, physics, chemistry and computer science. We are an international, innovative and interdisciplinary laboratory with more than 1700 employees from many nations, operating across six sites, in Heidelberg (HQ), Barcelona, Hinxton near Cambridge, Hamburg, Grenoble and Rome.
Our mission is to offer vital services in training scientists, students and visitors at all levels; to develop new instruments and methods in the life sciences and actively engage in technology transfer activities, and to integrate European life science research.
Please note that appointments on fixed term contracts can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of the review.
