The course is in English and free of charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2.5-day professional training course for secondary school science teachers will consist of a mix of seminars by EMBL scientists, hands-on activities, lab experiments and visits to state-of-the-art research facilities at EMBL. The programme will cover a wide range of topics and highlight the use of cutting-edge gene technologies and transgenic animals in research, and how these topics may be transferred to the classrooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The course will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Introduce you to current genome engineering techniques and how these are applied in genomics research<\/li><li>Provide practical and hands-on insights into aspects related to genome editing<\/li><li>Update your knowledge on current biological research and get you in touch with research scientists<\/li><li>Foster discussion on the ethical aspects of genome engineering and transgenic animal research<\/li><li>Illustrate a range of classroom activities and experiments, and equip you to use the presented resources to support your teaching of biology<\/li><li>Include guided visits to research facilities at EMBL Heidelberg<\/li><li>Provide insights into research careers in the life sciences<\/li><li>Provide a platform to network and share your experiences with colleagues from all over Europe<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"vf-tabs__section\" id=\"vf-tabs__section-34a7f779-3d7b-4d53-91a3-93240db7110a\"><h2>Location\/Travel<\/h2>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Location<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">first course day<\/span> (19 March) will take place at the seminar room of the Hotel ISG in Heidelberg-Boxberg. The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">second and third day<\/span> (20-21 March) will take place at EMBL Heidelberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Travel<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Shuttle bus<\/strong><br>For those staying in the hotel, a shuttle bus will be provided, transferring participants between hotel and EMBL. Please note that there will be no shuttle service for getting from Heidelberg city centre to the Hotel ISG on the 19<sup>th<\/sup> March (first day) where the course starts. You will find the ATC building at the top of the footpath leading up the hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Leaving EMBL on 21<sup>st<\/sup> March<\/strong><br>There will be a shuttle service taking participants from EMBL Heidelberg to the Heidelberg main train station after the end of the course.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"vf-tabs__section\" id=\"vf-tabs__section-aedfc5fc-2bc7-42a1-8e2c-dd03830f529d\"><h2>Accommodation<\/h2>\n<p>Participants who do not reside in Heidelberg will be provided with single-room accommodation free of charge for 2 nights (19<sup>th<\/sup> and 20<sup>th<\/sup> March, i.e. Sunday to Tuesday) at the Hotel ISG in Heidelberg-Boxberg.
