I grew up in northern Bavaria, Germany and moved to the coast to study Chemical Engineering\/Biotechnology in Emden. Shortly before graduating, I decided to leave without a degree because planning big biotechnological production units did not appear very attractive to me. I decided to slightly change topic. I undertook training to become a Biological Technical Assistant (\u201cBTA\u201d) and did one of my internships at the EMBL Hamburg unit, where I am working right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have never regretted my choice to become a Technician, as it fits perfectly with my personality. Already as a child, I wanted to know how things work and spent a lot of time outside in nature and in the workshop of my father. Additionally, I really love to give other people a hand and to organize things. Here at EMBL Hamburg, the Technicians spend quite a large amount of their time on lab organization like ordering, taking care of machines, doing minor repairs, organizing trainings, and are the first contact person for all lab members.
