The BioModels data resource has launched the first edition of its ‘Model of the year’ competition, aimed at early career researchers working in systems biology modelling

The competition aims to recognise exciting modelling research happening in the field to promote reproducibility, good modelling practice and FAIR sharing, as well as to recognise emerging leaders in the field.

BioModels is one of the largest public open source databases of quantitative mathematical models, where the models are manually curated and semantically enriched. Over 1000 curated models are available to the scientific community in BioModels.

“The importance of theoretical modelling is often underrated in the life sciences,” explained Rahuman Sheriff, BioModels Project Leader at EMBL-EBI. “We’re hoping this competition draws out some of the excellent work happening in the field and encourages early-career researchers to share their models more widely.”

Early-career researchers are invited to submit their entries before 31 December 2022. The jury will choose multiple winners, based on scientific merit, reproducibility and community standards.

This competition is part of the Theory@EMBL transversal theme, which aims to promote theory-guided paths to discovering and understanding the underlying principles of complex and dynamic biological systems at all scales, from molecules to organisms to ecosystems.
