Guest House officer

Rüdiger Kühne, the administrator of the Guest Houses and Housing Service can be contacted by email, telephone or at the office during office hours.

The apartments can only be rented for a whole calendar month (1─30 or 31 of the month). If you wish to stay longer than one month, you must sign a lease contract and a direct debit form. It should be signed within the first 10 days of your stay and submitted to the guesthouse administration.

The contract is binding and states that you must pay your rent by the 18th of every month. Please contact the relevant guest house officer for more information. For a short visit of one month, the rent can be paid at the Guest House Office by cash or EC/Maestro card.

Tenants staying longer than a month must provide additionally credit card details as a rental deposit and payment by direct debit will be necessary.

Notice must be given one whole month prior to vacating the apartment. For example, if you wish to vacate the apartment by the end of May, notice must be given by the end of April.

Registration at the Bürgeramt is required by law in Germany. All tenants who stay more than three months in the guesthouse have to register within 2 weeks of taking over the premises.

Likewise, when you terminate your lease and vacate the Guesthouse, by law you need to deregister within two weeks from vacating your room.

With the receipt of the rental agreement you will receive a form to register on the:

• Bürgeramt, Emmertsgrundpassage 17 for Boxberg
• Bürgeramt Mitte, Bergheimer Str. 69 for Suedstadt

After initial registration at the Bürgeramt, you will receive a letter from ARD/ZDF and Deutschlandradio. Please submit it at the office of Rüdiger Kühne or at the Hotel ISG.

Please note that Guest Houses have an obligatory cleaning service. This service is non-negotiable.

Rooms and apartments are cleaned once a month (more often upon request with extra charge). The cleaning service will automatically change your sheets and towels, unless you prefer to use your own. Dish washing and tidying up are not included.

Garbage Disposal

In Germany, garbage must be separated by law.

• Blue containers are for paper and cardboard.
• Grey containers are for non-recyclable garbage such as food rests, tissues, nappies etc. The garbage containers are located next to the building.
• Yellow bags are for recyclable garbage such as cans, tins, plastics etc. You can collect these bags from the office in Boxbergring 107.
• Glass containers are provided by the city and are located about 20 meters from Guest House Boxberg I/II, and opposite the Guest House Suedstadt on the street Kirschgartenstraße.

Caretaker Service

Should any repairs in your apartment be necessary, please let us know as soon as possible by contacting kuehne@embl.de or isg@embl.de so that we can inform our caretaker.

It is also possible to enter necessary repairs into our ‘Complaint Book’, which is located opposite the big bulletin boards at the bottom of the stairs to the office (Boxberg I).
