EMBL-EBI is a world leader in the development of global bioinformatics standards, which are key to data sharing.
Thanks to our many data-sharing agreements, EMBL-EBI resources are comprehensive and up to date. We work with publishers to ensure that biological data must be placed in a public repository and cross-referenced in the relevant publication.
Our data resources are enhanced through annotation: highly qualified biologists add value to data resources by incorporating features of genes or proteins from other sources, and automated annotation is subjected to rigorous quality control.
Our data and tools are freely available, without restriction. The only exception is potentially identifiable human genetic information, for which access depends on research consent agreements
All of our data and many of our software systems can be downloaded and installed locally.
EMBL’s databases and software are freely available to the scientific community wherever possible, and we encourage open access publication.
The European COVID-19 Data Platform facilitates data sharing and analysis in order to accelerate coronavirus research.
Enjoy open access to over 990,000 protein structure predictions for the human proteome and other key proteins.
Aiming to map every cell type in the human body, the Human Cell Atlas will transform our understanding of biology and disease.
