Undergraduates

EMBL welcomes undergraduate students of all disciplines in the natural sciences extending from biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics to medicine, informatics and engineering.

EIPODs inspire

EIPODs Inspire enables young researchers to expand their scientific network and explore cutting-edge life science research.

It offers the opportunity to:

  • receive 18 months’ informal mentorship from an EMBL Interdisciplinary Postdoc,
  • and attend the EMBL PhD Symposium.

The scheme is open to students studying for a scientific master’s degree in an EMBL member or prospect member state eligible for EU Widening Actions under Horizon 2020. These are:

Programme status

Two calls for mentees have been completed:

  • 2021 call: 24 mentee and mentor pairs were established. Mentees attended the 2021 EMBL PhD Symposium and attended a kick-off meeting with their mentors in December 2021. The mentoring period for this cohort ran from December 2021 to June 2023.
  • 2022 call: 19 mentee and mentor pairs were established. Mentees attended the 2022 EMBL PhD Symposium and attended a kick-off meeting with their mentors in December 2022. The mentoring period for this group will run until June 2024.

No call is planned for 2023.
