Background<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

TREC is an EMBL led scientific expedition and a project with many partners. It is the flagship project of EMBL\u2019s Planetary Biology Transversal Theme<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the initial expedition (TRaversing European Coastlines) it is expected that other expeditions, exploring diverse habitats in various regions, will follow, evolving TREC into TRaversing ECosystems, expanding in scope and scale.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A TREC consortium<\/strong> has been formed and will collectively drive the analysis and integrate data from future expeditions. This is expected to take many years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Given the complexity, a TREC governance structure has been introduced. The TREC consortium steering  committee<\/strong> oversees the activities of the consortium and is responsible for overall directions and organizational management. It is chaired by the TREC scientific director<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The research of the TREC consortium is driven by the TREC scientific coordinators <\/strong>who are responsible for certain aspects of data generation and analysis, but also for integrating various subprojects and concepts to make TREC more than the sum of its many individual subprojects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The many subprojects<\/a> are led by PIs from the various partner institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
