{"id":1040,"date":"2021-05-18T14:32:11","date_gmt":"2021-05-18T14:32:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/about\/info\/szilard-library\/?page_id=1040"},"modified":"2023-02-17T10:17:34","modified_gmt":"2023-02-17T10:17:34","slug":"open-access-at-embl","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/about\/info\/szilard-library\/open-access\/open-access-at-embl\/","title":{"rendered":"Open Access at EMBL"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"vf-grid | vf-grid__col-1\"><div class=\"vf-grid__col--span-2\"><!--[vf\/content]-->\n<div class=\"vf-content\">\n\n<p>With effect of 1 January 2022, EMBL is introducing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/documents\/document\/internal-policy-no-71-open-science-and-open-access\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EMBL Open Science Policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The policy in a nutshell<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Researchers with an EMBL affiliation and publishing in a peer-reviewed journal are obliged to make the article available in Europe PMC no later than six months after official publication. Where EMBL pays the article processing charges (APCs) using CC-BY is obligatory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to submit an article on Europe PMC<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Most publishers will deposit to Europe PMC a copy of the manuscript on behalf of the author; such information can be found on the publisher\u2019s site and\/or on Europe PMC\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/europepmc.org\/journalList\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Journal List<\/a>&nbsp;tool (under&nbsp;<strong>Participation Level<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If such a deposition service is not offered by the publisher, the author needs to self-archive the manuscript to Europe PMC through the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/plus.europepmc.org\/emss\/login\/uls.cgi?rss=WT&amp;url=https:\/\/plus.europepmc.org\/emss\/sub.cgi?login=WT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Europe PMC Plus<\/a>&nbsp;tool. User guides can be found on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/plus.europepmc.org\/emss\/local\/Help\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EuropePMC Plus User Guide<\/a>&nbsp;page; the guide specific to the submission process can be found&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/plus.europepmc.org\/emss\/local\/Help\/pi.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the Gold Open Access route (payment of Article Processing Charges) is selected, the paper&nbsp;must be made available on&nbsp;Europe PMC&nbsp;immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/plus.europepmc.org\/emss\/local\/Help\/grep.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Grant Linking<\/a>&nbsp;step and if your research has not been funded by a Europe PMC funder -for a list check&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/europepmc.org\/Funders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>&#8211; use the dummy grant code&nbsp;<strong>EMBL001.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OSIM is happy to help with the submission of manuscripts on Europe PMC and can be&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:library@embl.de?subject=Submission%20to%20Europe%20PMC\">contacted<\/a>&nbsp;for assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How is the payment for APCs handled?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>EMBL will provide funding for APCs commensurate with its contribution to articles and in support of the APC provision made by external funding agencies.
