         <\/svg>\n              <\/a>\n      <\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"scope\">Scope of the fellowship<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Training of the next generation of scientists is one of EMBL\u2019s key missions. The EMBL Scientific Visitor Programme gives excellent young researchers access to state-of-the-art technology platforms and research laboratories at all six EMBL sites.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/about\/info\/support\/embl-corporate-partnership-programme\/\">EMBL Corporate Partnership Programme<\/a> has prioritised the introduction of short-term fellowships amounting <strong>up to 4.000 EUR<\/strong> to enable junior level scientific visitors to carry out experimental projects with an EMBL host research group, thereby allowing them to build new networks and experience the international and interactive environment at EMBL, in addition to experiencing progress of their own research goals. Fellowship awardees are expected to submit a short activity report after the visit. These fellowships are run by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/about\/info\/scientific-visitor-programme\/\">Scientific Visitor Programme<\/a> office to provide logistic and organisational support to successful awardees before and during their stay.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fellowships are designed to act as <strong>flexible co-funding<\/strong>, and can be provided alongside any other sources of external funding received by the fellow &#8211; as long as all sources of such funding are declared to the Scientific Visitor Programme office in the Application form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"vf-divider\">\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"covered\">What is covered<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fellowship of <strong>up to 4.000 EUR<\/strong>, depending on the duration of the stay<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Provided as reimbursement of travel or accommodation cost upon provision of receipts&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Eligible for stay at all EMBL sites in Barcelona, Grenoble, Hamburg, Heidelberg, Hinxton or Rome<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Flexible to combine fellowship with other declared sources of external funding as long as this is allowed by those sources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Support provided to find EMBL or associated housing, or options presented for in the private rental market in support with local Unit\/site administrators<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"vf-divider\">\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"eligibility\">Eligibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Currently employed Ph.D and postdoctoral researchers only<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No restriction on age, gender, nationality, scientific background or current location&nbsp;except for affiliations with UN\/EU-sanctioned institutes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must be employed and return to home institution on completion of fellowship<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Minimum stay of one month to a maximum stay of six months, hosted by an EMBL research group<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Only first visit to EMBL is supported. Applications must be submitted and decision received before commencement of the visit (see below for processing times). Retroactive applications are not possible<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visitors to EMBL Core Facilities are ineligible. Such visitors should apply for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/services-facilities\/boulin-fellowships\/\">Christian Boulin fellowship<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visits not commenced within six months of fellowship award shall be forfeited<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"vf-divider\">\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"evaluation\">Evaluation criteria<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Candidates are evaluated by an internal committee of EMBL group leaders on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>scientific background, excellence and relevance for the training opportunity at EMBL<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>quality of the proposed project, its clarity of description and extent of expertise between sending laboratory and EMBL host<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>potential for knowledge, methods\/technique transfer and\/or access to technology at EMBL not available at sending lab\/institution<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the opportunity for this fellowship to kick-start a new collaborative project<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, already secured funding (where CPP fellowship amounts will top-up to address a gap), funding landscape of home country, and length of stay are considered on final award amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications are reviewed and final decisions are communicated to candidates within 30 calendar days following each application deadline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"vf-divider\">\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"apply\">How to apply<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>From 2026 applications are open throughout the year with deadlines every two months on 31 January, 30 April, 31 July and 30 October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please apply via Workday with the following documents:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>completed application form (click on the link at the top of this page)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>your complete CV with your publications (if any) up-to-date and indexed in ORCID<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>confirmation of the visit and recommendation from the EMBL hosting group leader on letter head<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>support letter from your supervisor at your home institute on letter head<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To submit your application on&nbsp;EMBL\u2019s online jobs portal, please create a profile and upload your&nbsp;completed application form, curriculum vitae, and letters of support.
