Harnessing the Life Sciences to Accelerate the Green Recovery

Climate science is clear – global carbon emissions need to be net zero by 2050 if we are to avoid the worst impacts of global warming. As we begin to make strides towards a post-COVID world, there is now an opportunity for economies to lead a Green Recovery on a global scale, and thus fulfil one of the objectives of the COP 26.

There is still much uncertainty about how we can realise the goal of net zero carbon economies, and so there is a need for tangible solutions driven by research and innovation. Furthermore, it can be argued that there are insufficient efforts to generate the scientific evidence, and the facts needed to deliver solutions, that will be crucial to mitigate against climate risk, and to concurrently accelerate a Green Recovery. By capitalising on EMBL’s position as Europe’s only Intergovernmental Organisation for life science research, we will facilitate a multi-disciplinary meeting focussed on how the life sciences can be effectively leveraged to develop climate change solutions.

The event will host experts from across the life science to engage in dialogue, and to explore how the life sciences will play a bigger role in a Green Recovery.
