{"id":161,"date":"2023-08-17T09:12:26","date_gmt":"2023-08-17T09:12:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/about\/info\/life-science-alliance\/?page_id=161"},"modified":"2024-07-09T13:52:09","modified_gmt":"2024-07-09T13:52:09","slug":"exchange","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/about\/info\/life-science-alliance\/activities\/exchange\/","title":{"rendered":"Exchange"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"vf-grid | vf-grid__col-3\"><div class=\"vf-grid__col--span-2\"><!--[vf\/content]-->\n<div class=\"vf-content\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Life Science Alliance Exchange Grants<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">We want to help you collaborate.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Life Science Alliance invites eligible researchers from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.embl.org\">EMBL<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stanford.edu\">Stanford<\/a> to submit an application for an Exchange Grant.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are exchange grants?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Exchange grants are designed to support inter-institutional collaboration by enabling the mobility of researchers from EMBL and the Stanford University School of Medicine or Stanford University School of Humanities and Sciences.&nbsp;The grants provide an opportunity for researchers to undertake an intensive visit to the partner institution, to learn, teach, network, and develop an international profile.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At least&nbsp;<strong>two exchange grants<\/strong>&nbsp;will be awarded per year for research visits up to&nbsp;<strong>3 months<\/strong>.&nbsp; Up to&nbsp;<strong>EUR 8,000<\/strong>&nbsp;is available per grant. Funding is provided for&nbsp;<strong>travel<\/strong>&nbsp;to the partner institution (up to EUR 2,000) and associated costs including:&nbsp;<strong>accommodation, insurances and visas<\/strong>&nbsp;(up to EUR 6,000 pro-rated based on length of visit). The grants cannot be used to pay for consumables, overheads, bench fees, salary costs or additional living costs during the exchange.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<hr class=\"vf-divider\">\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Faculty, staff and postdoctoral fellows<\/strong>&nbsp;from both EMBL and the Stanford University School of Medicine or School of Humanities and Sciences are able to apply for an exchange grant. For clarity, students (including bachelors, masters or PhD students) are&nbsp;<em>not eligible&nbsp;<\/em>for an exchange grant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are no restrictions on age, gender or scientific background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The researcher must remain in employment at their home institution for the duration of the exchange.<\/p>\n\n\n<hr class=\"vf-divider\">\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to apply<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please read the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/scl\/fi\/xw09w3oq3mrvtat8ky6xo\/240625_LSA_exchange_guidelines.pdf?rlkey=o9xb5y3b1qmcrd2v9zmf59xz8&amp;dl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">applicant guidelines<\/a>&nbsp;in detail before submitting your application.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To submit your application, please&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/scl\/fi\/pur90x3d7v4w6f1qz9xkw\/240625_Exchange_application.docx?rlkey=5o9pf97rd3z4dkkvrm4dutr67&amp;dl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">download the application form<\/a>&nbsp;and send the completed document to&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:stanford@embl.de\">stanford@embl.de<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications must be developed with mutual agreement between at least one EMBL and one Stanford PI. Supervising PIs must confirm their support for the application by signing the final page of the application form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proposals must describe a collaboration that&nbsp;<strong>clearly builds on the strengths of the laboratories that are involved<\/strong>. They must clearly indicate how the visit will draw on the expertise or technology available in each lab, the institution, or the researcher&#8217;s own skills.
