Visualising Life \u2013 Interdisciplinary Approaches to Biology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The EMBL Imaging Centre has just finished hosting the 2023 edition of the Summer School with focus on\u00a0Visualising Life<\/em>. The two-week programme was aimed to introduce a selected group of undergraduate students, who have a non-biology background, to the dynamic interdisciplinary world of the life sciences. The Summer School is built on EMBL\u2019s exceptional research portfolio and its commitment to training young scientists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A group of 20 highly motivated students was provided with hands-on experience on current biology methods, including building a high-speed microscope for live organismal imaging and analysing the complex images produced using machine learning. The programme included exciting theoretical lectures and discussions supplemented with practical experiments. The participants have the chance to take part in various social activities to foster a collaborative spirit, which is a hallmark of research at EMBL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EMBL Lautenschl\u00e4ger Summer School<\/a> is specially designed to inspire undergraduate students from other fields such as engineering, physics, and others to pursue an interdisciplinary PhD in life sciences. Through this programme, EMBL PhD students also get the opportunity to share their research experiences and practise some teaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
