The Council is composed of all member states<\/a> of the Laboratory. Each member state is represented by up to two delegates, who may be accompanied by advisors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EMBL Council is chaired by by Virginijus Siksnys (LT). His vice-chairs are Rein Aasland (NO) and Savvas Savvides (BE). The Council elects a chair and two vice-chairs who hold office for one year and may be re-elected on not more than two consecutive occasions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Member states of the European Molecular Biology Conference (EMBC) may attend the Council meeting as of right as observers. States not members of the EMBC may take part as observers by unanimous vote of the member states present and voting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n \n \n Finance Committee\n <\/a>\n <\/h3>\n\n

The Finance Committee assists the Council in the financial management and control of EMBL.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n\n\n\n

\n \n \n Scientific Advisory Committee\n <\/a>\n <\/h3>\n\n

Council establishes the Scientific Advisory Committee, which gives advice to Council, in particular with regard to proposals from the Director General on the realisation of the programme of the Laboratory.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n\n\n\n

\n \n \n Pensions Advisory Board\n <\/a>\n <\/h3>\n\n

Council appoints the Pensions Advisory Board, which guides Council to make informed decisions about the EMBL Pension Fund.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n\n\n\n

\n \n \n EMBL External Auditors\n <\/a>\n <\/h3>\n\n

Council appoints the External Auditors for three years. The appointed External Auditors examine in accordance with auditing standards accepted by the appropriate international auditing and accounting organisations, the accounts of the Laboratory\u00a0in accordance with Regulation 6 of the EMBL Financial Regulations (EMBL\/FRIFR\/2025\/24<\/a>).<\/p>\n<\/article>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
