Whereby state-of-the-art<em> in situ<\/em> hybridisation (ISH) technologies are key to visualise these RNAs in a given tissue or cell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This course will teach participants to apply three powerful RNA visualisation techniques, all in histological tissue samples: conventional<em> in situ<\/em> hybridisation (ISH), hybridisation chain reaction ISH (HCR-ISH), and the cutting edge single molecule fluorescent ISH (smFISH). In addition, essential tissues embedding protocols adapted to facilitate visual interrogation of RNA transcripts will also be covered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Benefit from our excellent trainer to participant ratio for personalised training in addition to world class research facilities and networking opportunities with leading experts in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Audience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This course is targeted to early stage scientists (PhD and postdocs) across the field of molecular biology with an interest in application of these techniques for their research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Onboarding day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This hybrid course will begin on 6 October 2023, with a joint onboarding session for on-site and virtual participants &#8211; where access to pre-course study materials, exercises and pre-recorded lectures will be provided through an introduction to our collaboration platform EMBL eCampus. This will prepare the participants for the course start on 22 October 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Full-time attendance is required for both virtual and on-site components of this course.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Information on the live stream and access to the virtual course platform will be provided shortly before the start of the event and will be available for 2 weeks after the course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lectures<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All lectures will be delivered on site and live-streamed to all virtual participants via Zoom. Please see the preliminary programme for details on all lectures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">On-site practicals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These are the practicals for the course, all of the content will be delivered on-site in the training laboratories and the microscopy rooms at EMBL. The practicals will not be live-streamed to virtual participants, please see below for the virtual practical information which will take place in tandem to the on-site practicals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Practical session 1: Introduction and theory of conventional ISH<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Practical session 2: Probe preparation (ddUTP + dye conjugation)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Practical 3a and 3b: Introduction and theory smFISH and HCR<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Practical 4: Imaging in groups (smFISH and HCR-ISH)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Practical session 5: Basics ISH image analysis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Virtual practicals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The content of the virtual practicals will be delivered in the form of interactive protocols as well as video tutorials recorded by the trainers. The following content will be available for virtual participants during the above on-site practical sessions. cover NcRNA or microRNA in situ hybridisation on paraffin sections of mouse tissues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will also include Q&amp;A sessions with trainers to give participants the opportunity to ask Recipients will be notified of their travel cap amount when they are informed of the outcome of their application. Original receipts must be provided with your signature for all costs incurred within two months of completion of travel. Scanned copies cannot be accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Childcare grant (EMBO Practical Courses only)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For EMBO Practical Course participants with children, there is the possibility to apply for a childcare grant to offset childcare costs incurred by participants or speakers when participating at a course. Eligible costs include fees for a babysitter or child-care facility, travel costs for a caregiver, or travel costs for taking the child to the meeting etc. Please note that priority will be given to early-stage researchers. A maximum amount of \u20ac500 can be awarded per participant applying for an EMBO childcare grant.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds travel grant<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Applies to selected courses only. Availability will be indicated during the motivation letter submission process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This grant covers costs related to your attendance at the course (registration, travel and accommodation costs). The grant is restricted to PhD students and postdocs who conduct basic biomedical research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you are eligible to apply for a travel grant, depends on when you received your university entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur, A-Levels, High School Diploma, Final State Examination):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; for PhD and MD students, as well as graduates, the university entrance qualification must not have been obtained more than 11 years ago at the time of the envisaged course<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; for postdocs, the university entrance qualification must not have been obtained more than 13 years ago at the time of the envisaged course<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Application<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You may apply for financial assistance when submitting your motivation letter for courses. In your application, you will be asked to answer questions regarding why your lab cannot fund your attendance and how your attendance will make a difference to your career. Application for financial support will not affect the outcome of your registration application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds Travel Grant, there is a pre-application question during the motivation letter submission process, and if selected you will be requested to complete a standard form and documentation consisting of your travel expense estimation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Selection<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The scientific organisers will select the recipients of all financial assistance during the motivation letter selection process. Results will be announced approximately 6-8 weeks before the event start date, however for some events this may be delayed. Selection results do not impact your admission to the course.
