The use of genomics, proteomics, and imaging have become routine, generating vast amounts of high-resolution data characterizing biological systems across multiple scales. This technological leap presents an opportunity: if we can formulate mechanistic models, integrate data across scales and incorporate dynamics of biological systems, then we can confront the grand challenge of engineering new cellular behaviors in these systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This conference aims to showcase new technologies and to formulate new questions to move our field forward. With new horizons in sight, this meeting will provide a necessary reassessment of the scope of &#8216;systems biology.&#8217; Leaders in genomics, dynamic proteomics, single-cell, quantitative imaging, synthetic biology and theory will gather to discuss their data and models. Alternatively, you can access the link on the confirmation page directly after registering. The same login credentials are used for both processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Things to keep in mind when preparing the abstract:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Abstract body: <\/strong>The limit of 2,000 characters refers to manually typed text and excludes spaces. If an error occurs try using a different web browser (preferably Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you copy-paste the text into the form, hidden formatting might still be included which may cause the text to exceed the 2,000 character limit resulting in an error message. Recipients will be notified of their travel cap amount when they are informed of the outcome of their application. Receipts (and boarding passes for air travel) must be provided via email with your signature for all costs incurred within two months of completion of travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Childcare grant<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There is the possibility to apply for a childcare grant to offset child care costs incurred by participants, speakers, and organisers when attending a conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eligible costs include (but are not limited to) fees for a baby-sitter or child-care facility, and travel costs for a caregiver. Please note that priority will be given to early stage researchers. You may apply for a childcare grant at the same time when submitting your abstract. There is a limited amount of funding available for the childcare grants and funds will be distributed amongst eligible applicants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">EMBO accessibility grant<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For EMBO Workshop participants with accessibility needs, there is the possibility to apply for an accessibility grant to offset costs incurred by participants or speakers when participating at a conference. Eligible costs include costs incurred for equipment or adaptations to the conference environment, or travel costs for an event companion to assist the participant or speaker during the conference where necessary. While we do our best to accommodate needs, please note that extensive changes to the conference environment might not be possible. Priority will be given to early-stage researchers. A maximum amount of \u20ac500 can be awarded per participant applying for an EMBO accessibility grant. In order to apply for this grant for EMBO Workshops, you must be registered by the abstract submission deadline.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Application<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On-site participants<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may apply for financial assistance when submitting your abstract. An adaptor and a plug that fits the German socket may be needed for your appliances\/laptop (i.e. American, Japanese, etc.). On hearing the alarm leave the building immediately following the escape route and fire wardens and head to one of the meeting points<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not use the lifts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Beyond first aid<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Heidelberg University Hospital or \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.klinikum.uni-heidelberg.de\/\">Universit\u00e4tsklinikum<\/a>\u2018 has a 24 hour accident and emergency facility and is at &#8216;Im Neuenheimer Feld 672&#8217;. It is a 8km or a 20 minute taxi ride away from EMBL. In a medical emergency, the ambulance service generally transports patients to this hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please remember to bring your own medication, if needed, to the conference. Note that the next pharmacy is a 4-minute drive from the EMBL, but for many medications you will be required to see a doctor to get a prescription.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ensure in advance that your medical insurance will cover you during your visit in the event that you do need to see a doctor while in Heidelberg. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EMBL course and conference office team are able to advise you on where to turn for emergency or non-emergency medical treatment in Heidelberg and can assist you in making appointments and \/ or arranging transport to get to the pharmacy or a doctor of your choice if necessary.
