Following the success of the inaugural 2024 meeting \u2013 which brought together an engaged community of researchers both in person and online \u2013 the 2026 edition marks the second installment of this growing scientific gathering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AI-based methods are pushing the limits of what is possible in experimental design, data analysis, simulation, and modelling. The aim of this symposium is to catalyse synergistic interactions between AI researchers in different subfields of biology and biomedicine by exploring shared theoretical approaches, cross-domain experiments, foundation models, and data integration, as well as shared topics in dissemination of tools, agent-based workflows and collaboration with experimental labs. Furthermore, we will look into the future and discuss how the concerted actions of AI and life science communities can enable both fields to exploit the full potential of the ongoing data deluge and find new application areas ripe for disruption by AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AI-based analytics is subject to active research in at least three major application areas: sequencing, imaging and structural biology. While all three domains are experiencing very fast growth, the developments are largely happening independently. The aim of our symposium is to convene these communities to discuss topics of mutual interest to make progress, including on the theoretical\/methodological side and on the more strategic issues of identifying the next areas of high potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Session topics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Foundation models for biology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cross-domain, cross-modality learning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explainable AI and mechanistic interpretability<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From algorithms to biology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Generative modeling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Emerging topics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/elsa-ai.eu\/elsa-workshop-trustworthyai4health\/#bppb-heading-anchor-10\">TrustworthyAI4Health Workshop<\/a>, co-organised by ELSA and EMBL, will take place on 9 March 2026 at EMBL Heidelberg. The workshop focuses on advancing private, fair, and reliable AI models for healthcare, with a strong emphasis on trustworthiness across model design, evaluation, and deployment. An adaptor and a plug that fits the German socket may be needed for your appliances. On hearing the alarm, leave the building immediately following the escape route and fire wardens and head to one of the meeting points<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not use the lifts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Beyond first aid<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Heidelberg University Hospital or \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.klinikum.uni-heidelberg.de\/\">Universit\u00e4tsklinikum<\/a>\u2018 has a 24 hour accident and emergency facility and is at &#8216;Im Neuenheimer Feld 672&#8217;. It is a 8 km or a 20 minute taxi ride away from EMBL. In a medical emergency, the ambulance service generally transports patients to this hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please remember to bring your own medication. Note that the next pharmacy is a 4 minute drive from the EMBL, but for many medications you need a prescription.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ensure in advance that your medical insurance will cover you during your visit in the event that you do need to see a doctor while in Heidelberg. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EMBL course and conference office team are able to advise you on where to turn for emergency or non-emergency medical treatment in Heidelberg and can assist you in making appointments and\/or arranging transport to get to the pharmacy or a doctor of your choice if necessary.
