Emergence of techniques like CRISPR-Cas9, next-generation sequencing, single-molecule(sm) FISH, and single-cell genomics have dramatically expanded the toolkit available for research in <em>Drosophila<\/em>. These techniques are now routinely applied to answer important knowledge gaps in developmental biology, cell biology, physiology, neurobiology, genome regulation, evolution, behavior and population genetics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This course will cover the latest advances in this direction through a combination of lectures delivered by world-renowned experts and hands-on practical sessions on the above topics delivered by excellent trainers &#8211; to help the participants rapidly absorb knowledge towards application for their own research. This course will play a key role in fostering the next generation of <em>Drosophila<\/em> biologists through transfer of this knowledge built up for over a century, opportunities for excellent networking and developing collaborations and long term relationships. Eligible costs include (but are not limited to) fees for a babysitter or child-care facility and travel costs for a caregiver. Please note that priority will be given to early-stage researchers. There is a limited amount of funding available for the childcare grants and funds will be distributed amongst eligible applicants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds travel grant<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Applies to selected courses only. Availability will be indicated during the abstract or motivation letter submission process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This grant covers costs related to your attendance to the course (registration, travel and accommodation costs). The grant is restricted to PhD students and postdocs who conduct basic biomedical research.<br>Whether you are eligible to apply for a travel grant,&nbsp;depends on when you received your university entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur, A-Levels, High School Diploma, Final State Examination):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; for PhD and MD students, as well as graduates, the university entrance qualification must not have been obtained more than 11 years ago at the time of the envisaged course<br>&#8211; for postdocs, the university entrance qualification must not have been obtained more than 13 years ago at the time of the envisaged course<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Application<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are attending virtually, you can apply for financial assistance in the submission portal by the abstract deadline.
