State-of-the-art <em>in situ<\/em> hybridisation (ISH) technologies enable visualisation and quantification of RNA molecules in a biological context, from organism and tissue to cell. Moreover, with sequential ISH technologies (e.g. MER-FISH), the RNA signature of individual cells \u2013 or even their sub-compartments \u2013 can be identified and characterised <em>in situ<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This course \u2013 targeting early-stage scientists (PhD students and postdocs) \u2013 will highlight three powerful RNA visualisation techniques in histological and whole tissue samples. During this course, the participants will visualise subcellular localisation of selected transcripts through conventional ISH and more sensitive, quantitative and resolutive smFISH (single molecule fluorescent ISH) and HCR-ISH (hybridisation chain reaction)\u2013based RNA-ISH hybridisation methods. Additionally, the participants will learn to design and produce their own FISH probes cost-efficiently. Recipients will be notified of their travel cap amount when they are informed of the outcome of their application. Scanned copies cannot be accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Childcare grants<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There is the possibility to apply for a childcare grant to offset child care costs incurred by participants, speakers, trainers and organisers when attending a course. Eligible costs include (but are not limited to) fees for a babysitter or child-care facility and travel costs for a caregiver. Please note that priority will be given to early-stage researchers. There is a limited amount of funding available for the childcare grants and funds will be distributed amongst eligible applicants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds travel grant<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Applies to selected courses only. Availability will be indicated during the abstract or motivation letter submission process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This grant covers costs related to your attendance to the course (registration, travel and accommodation costs). The grant is restricted to PhD students and postdocs who conduct basic biomedical research.<br>Whether you are eligible to apply for a travel grant,&nbsp;depends on when you received your university entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur, A-Levels, High School Diploma, Final State Examination):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; for PhD and MD students, as well as graduates, the university entrance qualification must not have been obtained more than 11 years ago at the time of the envisaged course<br>&#8211; for postdocs, the university entrance qualification must not have been obtained more than 13 years ago at the time of the envisaged course<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Application<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You may apply for financial assistance when submitting your motivation letter for courses. In your application, you will be asked to answer questions regarding why your lab cannot fund your attendance and how your attendance will make a difference to your career. Application for financial support will not affect the outcome of your registration application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds Travel Grant, there is a pre-application question during the motivation letter submission process, and if selected you will be requested to complete a standard form and documentation consisting of your travel expense estimation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*For some events, applications for Childcare Grants will still be done by email. Information about the grant will be sent out shortly after the abstract\/motivation letter deadline.
