We are delighted to announce that the course is going virtual and invite you to join us online.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Course Overview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Correlative Light and Electron Microscopy (CLEM) allows precise localisation of an event of interest within cells and tissues. During this course, we will focus on a specific method that has been developed at EMBL that enables the location of fluorescent proteins with high accuracy at the ultrastructural level. The course will cover both the theory and practicals of high precision CLEM, as well as&nbsp;opportunities to discuss their research with CLEM experts and receive practical and troubleshooting advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Audience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This course is intended for scientists with experience in EM who want to further develop their skills in high-accuracy correlated microscopy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Modules\/Resources<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The course will combine lectures and hands-on practical work covering all steps in the work flow including cryogenic sample preparation, ultramicroscopy, image registration and electron tomography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learning Outcomes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants will gain hands-on experience with the CLEM methods and learn tips from the people who developed the methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Participant Commitment<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The virtual course has associated pre-course work that needs to be completed before the start of the course. Bear in mind that completing this activity takes time, we recommend to take a look at the materials as soon as you\u2019ve been notified the information is online. Completing this activity takes approximately 7 hours.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 5-day virtual course in September 2021 includes some live lectures, but will mostly be devoted to hands-on work on real data, in small groups of 4-5 participants.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>General notes:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 The virtual course will start on Monday, 30 August, with an onboarding session and access to the pre-recorded lectures and pre-course study materials (exercises, assignments, etc.). It will continue on Monday, 6 September with the regular programme.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 The virtual course includes recorded \/ live lectures, interactive discussion sessions, online practicals, hands-on exercises, student presentations and networking. \u2022 Full-time attendance is required for the course duration.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Selected participants will have access to the recorded talks 1 week before the start of the event. The registration fee waiver covers the registration sum that you have paid to attend the meeting. Conference participants are not required to pre-pay the registration fee to be selected for a fee waiver for a virtual meeting. If you have already paid the registration fee and are awarded a fee waiver, it will be reimbursed after the meeting. Course participants are required to pay the course fee in advance, which will then be reimbursed after the recipient has attended the course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Childcare Grants<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For participants and speakers with childcare responsibilities there is the possibility to apply for a grant,&nbsp;provided by the EMBL Advanced Training Centre Corporate Partnership Programme and EMBO, to offset childcare costs incurred when participating at a virtual event. Eligible costs include fees for a babysitter or childcare facility or travel costs for a care giver. Please note that priority will be given to early stage researchers. Costs will be reimbursed after the meeting only once a reimbursement form and original receipts have been received. Attendance at the event is required in order to be eligible to receive the reimbursement. In order to apply for this grant, you must be registered by the abstract submission deadline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Application<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications for financial assistance can be submitted via the submission portal* (for the submission of abstracts for conferences or the submission of motivation letters for courses) by completing the Financial Assistance Application Section (underneath the section for entering abstract\/motivation letter information). The link to the portal can be found in the registration confirmation email that you will receive after registering for the conference or course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For conferences, if you are not submitting an abstract, you can still apply for financial assistance in the submission portal.
