{"id":1795,"date":"2020-09-01T10:57:26","date_gmt":"2020-09-01T08:57:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.embl.org\/events\/?p=1795"},"modified":"2024-05-07T14:37:25","modified_gmt":"2024-05-07T13:37:25","slug":"designing-training-using-competencies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/about\/info\/course-and-conference-office\/2020\/09\/designing-training-using-competencies\/","title":{"rendered":"Designing training using competencies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The European project team was initiated in the EMBL-EBI training team to build training frameworks on pan-European projects funded by the European Union\u2019s Horizon 2020 programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of these projects include <a href=\"https:\/\/bioexcel.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BioExcel<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cineca-project.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CINECA<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eosc-life.eu\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EOSC Life<\/a>, featuring EMBL-EBI as an active partner co-leading on training activities, secondments and best practices to deliver project goals. The training programme often includes a mix of face-to-face and remote courses, webinars and a range of online tutorials developed from a competency-based needs analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Supporting biomolecular scientists<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/competency.ebi.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Competency mapper<\/a> is an online tool developed by the EMBL-EBI training team using the BioExcel competency framework as a primary use case, to support professionals working in biomolecular sciences. With its diverse potential, the tool has expanded into the area of career development where individual professionals can create profiles, document their competencies and seek further training to fill gaps in their portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the future, learning pathways with curated sets of training resources will be added to achieve specific development goals.
