Its scientific activity focuses on molecular bases of serious diseases, cancer biology, immunology and biology of fertilisation with particular stress on regulation of gene expression and cellular signalling, oncogenes, cell-surface receptors, cytoskeleton, cytoplasmatic and nuclear structures, and selected retroviruses. In cooperation with universities, IMG carries out doctoral study programmes and provides training for young scientists. It promotes international cooperation, including organisation of joint research projects with foreign partners, participation in exchange programmes for scientists, as well as preparation of joint publications.

As a partner in this project, IMG intends to cooperate with the EMBL towards training of the Fellows. IMG can host up to four Fellows per year in the period 2020-2024 through secondments and introduce them to the ways of working, instrumentation and procedures at IMG. Duration of secondments will be between 2 and 6 months and will be arranged in communication with the Fellow. Fellows who will do secondments at IMG will come from the field related or complementary to the field of work of IMG.

At IMG, Fellows will have a possibility to analyze production of DNA, RNA and proteins in cells, tissues and body fluids; perform microscopic analyses of cells and tissue preparations, cytometric and sorting analyses of cells; prepare sequencing libraries, sequence them and analyse bioinformatically; learn to prepare genetically modified organisms and breed experimental animals; produce antibodies, recombinant proteins and DNA constructs; and to perform comprehensive testing of biological activity of chemical compounds and macromolecules. The Fellows will also have a chance to get acquainted with the operation of our core facilities of light and electron microscopy, flow cytometry, genomics and transcriptomics, bioinformatics and computing, centres for transgenics and phenogenomics, (bio)chemical engineering, animal facility, facility of monoclonal antibodies, etc. IMG will dedicate supervision capacity for each fellow on secondments. During the secondments, Fellows can stay employed by EMBL.

IMG intends also to host mini-secondments in a duration of up to two weeks, during which Fellows will shadow operations at IMG.

https://www.img.cas.cz/en/ As a public research institute, IMG helps advance the level of scientific knowledge, improve education and transfer the results of scientific research to practice.
