Credit: Creative team\/EMBL<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>EMBL has long been known within the scientific community for its experimental and data services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2021, two independent reviews confirmed the significance of the beneficial impact of these services, providing case studies and data about their value for researchers in the wider scientific community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/services-facilities\/technopolis\/\">report by the Technopolis<\/a> Group found that EMBL\u2019s experimental services were \u2018vital\u2019 for the research of 91 % of users. As well as this, 70 % of academic users indicated that using<a href=\"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/news\/lab-matters\/technopolis\/\"> EMBL experimental services helped them deliver wider societal impacts<\/a> in health, biotechnology, climate change, and food security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants provided useful narrative feedback as well, like this comment from an EMBL academic user in Switzerland: \u201cYou are providing amazing facilities and services to the research community, essentially enabling scientific projects and building research careers.\u201d<br>Likewise, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebi.ac.uk\/about\/our-impact\/impact-report-2021\">study by Charles Beagrie Ltd<\/a> specifically looking at EMBL-EBI\u2019s data resources underscored the value and impact of open data in the life sciences. The study highlighted that EMBL-EBI data resources underpin research impacts estimated to be worth \u00a31.3 billion annually. One user from the UK commented: \u201cEMBL-EBI has transformed what I and my team and students are able to conceptualise and achieve. I wouldn\u2019t be able to do one-tenth of what I can or have done over the last 20 years.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe survey results and case studies highlighted in these reports are a critical way to show the value of EMBL\u2019s scientific services to the scientific communities in EMBL member states and beyond,\u201d said Jessica Vamathevan, EMBL\u2019s Head of
