Credit: Arina Rybina\/EMBL<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It was the end of May 2021 when, as a \u2018kick off\u2019 to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/news\/lab-matters\/scilifelab-memorandum\/\"> a new MoU, EMBL and SciLifeLab<\/a> met virtually to discuss potential scientific collaborations. Fitting nicely with a spring motif, the MoU found fertile ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After introductions of future strategic plans, scientific talks from each institution, exchange of information on complementary experimental and computational platforms being developed, and challenges in analysing large multimodal datasets, it became clear this collaboration would have many avenues for fruitful exchange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scilifelab.se\/\">SciLifeLab<\/a>, a Swedish national infrastructure that advances molecular biosciences, is a collaboration initiated by the<a href=\"https:\/\/ki.se\/en\"> Karolinska Institute<\/a>, the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kth.se\/en\"> KTH Royal Institute of Technology<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.su.se\/cmlink\/stockholm-university\"> Stockholm University<\/a>, and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uu.se\/en\"> Uppsala University<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new EMBL Programme and SciLifeLab\u2019s strategic vision are remarkably aligned. In fact, EMBL\u2019s new planetary biology transversal theme in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.embl.org\/about\/programme\/\">new Programme<\/a> inspired SciLifeLab to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scilifelab.se\/news\/new-planetary-biology-capability-at-scilifelab\"> establish its own planetary biology research track<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But exchanges haven\u2019t just been about the research.
