Alumni from 35 countries meet digitally for the first Coffee with EMBL<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

150 alumni from 35 countries across every continent gathered online for the first Coffee with EMBL <\/em>on Friday 24 April 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This pilot event offered the opportunity for EMBL alumni to hear first hand how EMBL is responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, and to share some of the ways in which they\u2019ve helped to combat the effects of the virus through research and volunteering efforts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coffee with EMBL<\/em> provides an accessible, informal online space for members of the EMBL community to connect, share and debate, as well as  giving participants access to outstanding scientists and thought leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first session was moderated by EMBL alumnus Angus Lamond, Professor, University of Dundee, and speakers included EMBL Director Matthias Hentze; Head of EMBL Barcelona James Sharpe; Interim Head of EMBL Rome Cornelius Gross; and EMBL Alumni Association Board Chair and Group Leader, Centre for Genomic Regulation Fatima Gebauer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next Coffee with EMBL <\/em>event, on Friday 8 May, will be a continuation of the discussion around the coronavirus pandemic, with a greater focus on COVID-19 research and related activities being done by the community. There will also be the opportunity to chat with the community shortly before and after the session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
