Jane was a predoctoral fellow in the Huttner Group within the Cell Biology and Biophysics Unit at EMBL Heidelberg from 1987 until 1991. May she rest in peace.

Jane was my contemporary in the EMBL PhD programme from 1987-1991. At the time, new EMBL PhD students lived in the EMBL guest house together for the first few months. This allowed us to get to know each other and quickly become a tightly knit group, despite vastly different personalities. Jane was quiet, friendly, and always generously used her time and abilities to help others.

Jane and I worked in neighbouring labs in the Cell Biology and Biophysics Unit and spent many late nights and weekends there together. She always had an open ear and was great company. We later also overlapped for a few years while we were both working at the MRC Lab for Molecular and Cell Biology in London. I was delighted when Jane became a staff scientist in Professor Gillian Griffiths’ lab, where she excelled in producing outstanding electron microscopic images for many years.

Jane’s premature death at age 58 deeply saddens me. She will be missed by everyone who had the good luck to know her.

Karin Römisch, EMBL Heidelberg predoc, Dobberstein Group, 1987-1991

Condolences

If you would like to add a message of condolence for inclusion on the EMBL Alumni Obituaries page, please contact the Alumni Relations team.

Jane Stinchcombe (Image: Griffiths Group, Cambridge Institute for Medical Research)

["post-38433","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
