EMBL
is actively developing carefully selected partnerships
with national institutions of comparable standard,
vision and international orientation. These partnerships
are working relationships at the institutional level,
not a matter of certification or of standard collaborative
links between individual scientists. They are based
on shared institutional goals, synergy and complementarity.
Their aim is to leverage the successful EMBL model
and competences, together with the strengths of
the partners, to create an interlinked system of
excellent institutions and thus enhance the development
of the molecular life sciences in Europe and the
world. A network of institutions will bring EMBL
to the member states, paralleling and reinforcing
the impressive network of EMBL Alumni created by
the EMBL turnover system. The following partnerships have
been established to date:
Molecular Medicine Partnership Unit, Heidelberg
Partnership for Structural Biology, Grenoble
Partnership with Sars International Centre for Marine Molecular Biology, Bergen
Partnership with DESY,
Hamburg
Partnership with CRG, Barcelona
