Sustaining scientific research in the developing world: An EMBL-based initiative

Capacity building and science-based sustainable development are essential for the future of developing countries. But what exactly do these words mean and, equally importantly, what strategies can be put in place to turn these words into action?

Adéquation Germany, an EMBL non-governmental organisation, has chosen to send used scientific equipment to developing countries universities and laboratories to help them strengthening their research capabilities to ensure a better research level as well as a better teaching level. Since three years, African universities as well as Eastern Europeans Laboratories had befitted from this initiative.
