Nikolas Rose
Nikolas Rose is James Martin White Professor of Sociology, Convenor of the Department of Sociology and Director of the BIOS Centre for the Study of Bioscience, Biomedicine, Biotechnology and Society at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He has published widely on the social and political history of the human sciences, on the genealogy of subjectivity, on the history of empirical thought in sociology, and on changing rationalities and techniques of political power, and he has also published in law and criminology.

His current research concerns biological and genetic psychiatry and behavioural neuroscience, and its social, ethical, cultural and legal implications, notably how these change ways of thinking about, and governing, normality and abnormality, His publications include The Psychological Complex [Routledge, 1984], Governing the Soul [Second Edition, Free Association Press, 1999], Powers of Freedom: Reframing Political Thought [Cambridge University Press, 1999] and The Politics of Life Itself [Princeton University Press, forthcoming 2006].
