Annual Report
The Annual Report is published once a year in July after having been approved by EMBL Council. It covers the past academic year and puts research at EMBL into a broad context of current molecular biology to make it comprehensible to a wide, non-specialist audience. The book is divided into three sections: the Director General's report, the Scientific Report and the Lab Notebook.
The Director General's Report covers important organisational and strategic aspects as well as the Director General's responses to the Scientific Advisory Committee reviews of EMBL Scientific Units that were carried out during the previous calendar year.
The Scientific Report presents a selection of scientific stories from research at EMBL during the past year. It is written in a simple language to be understandable for a broad audience.
The Lab Notebook describes last year's events and activities of the EMBL community.

Research at a Glance
Research at a Glance is published once a year in the summer and is an accessible overview of the current and future research going on at all EMBL sites. Each group has one page on which to describe their activities in a clear and concise way.

Facts & Figures
Facts & Figures, formerly the Handbook of Statistics, is an integral part of EMBL's Annual Report on staff, visitors, collaborations, finances, the EMBL Council, Scientific Advisory Committee, etc. It covers a calendar year.
From 2005 on, Facts & Figures is available on DVD as an overview of the most important and interesting EMBL statistics on staff, visitors, finances, EMBL leadership, etc.

Strategic Forward Look
The Strategic Forward Look was prepared by the Director
General and his predecessor and approved by EMBL
Council in 2003 as a long-term strategy for EMBL
for the next decade. It encompasses discussion
of both scientific and administrative planning for
the Laboratory. |

EMBL Programme
EMBL runs on a 5-year programme which is approved by Council. It is formulated with extensive input and support from internal and external sources such as the EMBL Heads of Units, Faculty members and coordinators of services, training, outreach and technology transfer activities. Regular evaluations of EMBL Units by the Scientific Advisory Committee have also provided crucial input.
