Advanced Training Centre Project Virtual Tour
EMBL Advanced Training Centre Welcoming international and local conferencees and visitors with its transparent structure and original shape, the EMBL Advanced Training Centre is designed to develop into a new hub for advanced training, promoting EMBL's mission for the benefit of European science.

ATC - Campus The ATC will be located opposite the EMBL Administration Building, between the multistorey carpark and the Meyerhofstraße. It is connected to the main campus via street-level walkways and defines a new axis on the EMBL campus.

ATC - Entrance Area The entrance area receives visitors and conference attendees. Spiral walkways guide upwards to the offices and the library, or lead down to the spacious foyer. The main entrances to the grand auditorium are located there, and on sunny days a large terrace invites the visitor to enjoy a relaxing outdoor atmosphere.
ATC - Entrance area - helices Two intertwined helices lead the way up to a rooftop terrace with a splendid view over the Rhein valley. The 29 individual levels on each spiral provide not only a unique poster exhibition area for large conferences, but also host offices of the EMBL International Centre for Advanced Training [EICAT], the Science and Society Programme and the Office of Information and Public Affairs. The Szilárd Library will be located on one of the helix strands, as are several mid-sized meeting rooms.
ATC - Auditorium The centrepiece of the conference facilities constitutes the grand auditorium, equipped with 450 seats and featuring the most recent media technology. Together with the new teaching laboratories [two wet-labs and one multi-purpose laboratory] and a state-of-the-art computer training lab [40 seats], these new conference facilities now allow EMBL to establish another category of scientific conferences, and promote Heidelberg and the Rhein-Neckar-Region into the centre of European scientific conference activities.
ATC - Canteen The new EMBL canteen is located in a separate building next to the helix and above the teaching laboratories, and not only serves its well renowned 'cuisine' daily to all EMBL staff, but also delivers tasty fingerfood and other culinary highlights for workshop and conference attendees. In the evenings the canteen hosts conference and banquet dinners, and occasionally might even stage one of the famous EMBL parties.
ATC - Roof Terrace After lunch on sunny days, the rooftop terrace will certainly become a very popular spot not only for EMBL staff, but also invite the conferencees to enjoy its beautiful view and promote discussions and scientific exchange. On rainy days and in the evenings, the adjacent lounge will invite all those who do enjoy to end a busy meeting day at the bar.
ATC - Night View The ATC will become a symbol for advanced training and scientific excellence in Europe, and stand out, not only as an architectural highlight in the Rhein-Neckar-Region, but will also serve as a model for the successful combination of form and function through creative architecture, as the architects Bernhardt + Partner have well demonstrated with this innovative project.
